Winter Fishing in Kauai

Aloha to all you Deep Sea Fisherman out there! Here is an update on the Kauai Fishing action for December & January. With winter in full swing, the bite continues to stay productive. The fishing gods blessed us with a nice 3 week stretch of light and variable fishing conditions, which helped make for some fun adventures. The Yellowfin Tuna bite generally stays active throughout the year, but January our waters have been loaded with some big ones out there. We landed about a dozen 100 + lbers in January alone. We also had several days where we ran into Mahi-Mahi piles and even made contact with some Bill Fish. We caught and released a solid 500lb Blue Marlin on January 20th. We have also landed several Shortbill Spearfish, largest of which was close to 50lbs! Here in Kauai the Shortfall Spearfish is called a “Hebi”.
